CARDIOLOGIST REVEALS
We sat down with Dr. Sanjay Bhojraj, a functional medicine cardiologist, for a candid Q&A about what your cholesterol numbers really mean, why pills aren't always the answer, and his favorite gentle alternative.
BY JANICE LEVY • JULY 2, 2026

Dr. Sanjay Bhojraj is an interventional cardiologist and functional medicine physician who takes a holistic approach to cholesterol health through diet, lifestyle, and supplementation.
Q: Can you walk us through the journey someone experiences when their cholesterol numbers get flagged by their doctor?
A: It often comes as a complete surprise. Someone goes in for routine bloodwork, has their cholesterol flagged by their doctor, and is suddenly having a conversation they were not expecting.
Their doctor may give them general advice to eat better and exercise more, and possibly discuss pills. The problem is that many people leave without a clear understanding of what their numbers mean or what they can realistically do next.
Q: Does a flagged result automatically mean someone needs to start taking pills?
A: Not necessarily. Many people become concerned when pills are presented as their only option, especially if they have seen the possible physical side effects from friends and family experiencing them firsthand.
I like to look at the cholesterol management guidelines, which typically recommend three to six months of diet and lifestyle optimization first.
Q: Why do so many people feel unsatisfied when they are told to “eat better and exercise more”?
A: Because that advice is too vague to act on. People need to know what changes to make, how often to make them, and which habits will have the most meaningful impact.
That could mean eating more whole and plant-based foods, walking regularly, improving sleep, or managing stress. Simply telling someone to just "work on their diet and exercise” does not give them a plan.

Q: What does conventional medicine tend to miss when it comes to cholesterol?
A: People are often surprised by how little nutritional education is given in medical school. If you think about it, the goal of medical school is for physicians to learn how to suggest conventional therapies, not to naturally support health.
I had to seek out additional training in integrative and functional medicine to fill that gap.
Q: Where do you suggest people who don't want to start taking pills start their cholesterol health journey?
A: Supplements can be a great gentle alternative to pills. The trick is just to find a product with clinical testing done on the full formula.
That’s why I love to suggest Dose for Cholesterol. It’s a daily drinkable supplement made with recognizable plant powered ingredients. I love that it was made by doctors, and I’ve personally seen it work great for LDL, HDL, and triglycerides.

Q: What can people expect to notice over time while taking Dose for Cholesterol?
A: The clinical study on the product showed positive impacts on LDL, HDL, and Triglycerides. Consistency is one of the most important factors in achieving these results.
By months 4-6, it’s a great time to schedule a check-in with your healthcare provider to reassess your levels.
Q: You have said that you are skeptical of most supplements. Why so, and what makes Dose for Cholesterol different?
A: It’s unfortunately very common in the supplement industry to see products advertising their formulas as “clinically studied”, when in reality, those studies are only on individual ingredients and in much smaller amounts than what is shown to have a therapeutic benefit.
I trust Dose for Cholesterol because the full formula has been studied together, the ingredients are included in meaningful amounts, and it’s clinically backed to make a measurable impact on the full lipid profile.

Q: Many traditional cholesterol pills focus primarily on LDL. What is Dose for Cholesterol doing differently?
A: LDL matters, but it is only one part of the picture. HDL helps carry cholesterol back toward the liver, while triglycerides reflect how the body is handling dietary fat and excess energy. Looking at all three gives you a more complete view of cholesterol health than focusing on one number alone.
That is what I like about Dose for Cholesterol. The formula supports healthy LDL, HDL, and triglyceride levels together, which is much closer to how I evaluate cholesterol in practice: as a group of connected markers, not one isolated result.

Q: What makes Dose for Cholesterol a gentle alternative to pills?
A: I like suggesting this as a support method prior to starting pills because not only is it effective, but people actually feel comfortable taking it because they can recognize the ingredients in it.
It’s formulated with plant-forward ingredients like pomegranate and ginger, combined at the potencies needed to make an impact on cholesterol levels.
